Two Bands are better than one!
The Defiance Stringband has been a local favorite in the valley for over 12 years. Now performing as a trio, they exchange a mix of acoustic instruments including fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar and bass, playing an eclectic mix of American hoedown, bluegrass, swing, rags, waltzes, some eastern European tunes and songs from our American past from such icons as Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Leon Redbone and Steve Goodman to name a few. ”
Hell Roaring String Band formed in Carbondale in the spring of 1999, however its seed members first played together in Costa Rica. Once more gainfully employed in Colorado, they carved out time in their lives for music by forming “The Bluegrass Committee,” a nod to the preponderance of teachers in their personnel. Early gigs at CRMS and local bars led to playing and recording two albums at Steve’s Guitars, which in turn led to gigs all through and beyond the Roaring Fork Valley. Their diverse musical interests and abilities- some winning childhood fiddle contests, some winning “Battle of the Bands-” informs their eclectic musical choices and interpretations even today, but interesting musicality remains the foundation of Hell Roaring String Band.
