Adrenaline junkies, it’s that time of year again! Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park thrill rides are opening for the spring and summer seasons starting on Friday, May 5.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is shifting into warm-weather mode. For visitors to the mountaintop theme park in Glenwood Springs that means all our high-flying thrill rides will be open* daily beginning on Friday, May 5, for unstoppable, heart-racing fun.
Defiance
Among the park’s many attractions, Defiance Roller Coaster is the newest addition to the roster of scream-worthy rides and stands out as an adrenaline-pumping favorite. A Rocky Mountain adventure like no other, riders experience freefall drops, sharp twists, full inversions and high speeds, all in under a minute. Defiance lives up to its name challenging riders to defy their fears and embrace the thrill of the moment!
Giant Canyon Swing
Competing with Defiance in the category most hair-raising thrill ride at the park, the Giant Canyon Swing is one of the highest hydraulic pendulum rides in the world! What makes this ride over-the-edge exciting is the sensation of zero gravity just after you hit the apex of the arc. If you can manage to open your eyes, you’ll have a bird’s eye view of the area’s spectacular scenery including Glenwood Canyon and the Colorado River 1,300 feet below. For some park visitors, just watching riders aboard the Giant Canyon Swing is thrill enough!
Glenwood Canyon Flyer
For a gentler, but still exhilarating experience, take your spot on the Glenwood Canyon Flyer. The spinning ride relies on centrifugal force to swing riders outward as it picks up speed. Going round and round, riders alternate between flying above mountaintop terrain and soaring over the edge of Iron Mountain.
Cliffhanger
For more over-the-edge thrills, the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster is not to be missed. From start to finish, it’s a white-knuckle wild ride through rugged terrain complete with twists, turns and drops. If you dare, look around at the panoramic vistas as you chug to the top of the track. But don’t blink! The mountains, including snowcapped Mt. Sopris, will disappear in an instant as you hurl down the rails, around corners and back to the starting point.
Zip Ride
Feel the freedom of flight aboard the Zip Ride, a tandem zipline ride that pulls riders back and upward. Once riders reach the high point, the zipline releases taking guests on a smooth, 600-foot descent down the mountain. The exhilaration of gliding above the landscape and gracefully landing back at the launchpad will make you feel like you truly have wings to soar!
Alpine Coaster
The first ride to grace the park, it still ranks as the most popular with visitors, and it’s no wonder. Alpine Coaster lets riders control their own speed, making each descent down Iron Mountain an unforgettable experience. With a combination of tight turns and straight-away stretches, there are plenty of thrills for guests whether they want to let-er-rip or take it easy.
