Sightseeing: Best Views in Glenwood Springs

From the valley floor to the mountaintop, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park redefines sightseeing with the best views in Glenwood Springs.

Take a look at your favorite Colorado hot springs community from a whole new perspective. Whether you choose to keep your feet planted on the park grounds or take a thrill ride to even higher heights, Glenwood Caverns is an Adventure Park that doesn’t let you down until you’re ready to head back to town.

Going Up

Give your vacation a lift. The Glenwood Gondola will whisk you from the ordinary to the extraordinary in a matter of seven minutes. The sights and sites of Glenwood Springs begin to unfold once you board our signature orange cabins, and as you climb higher and higher to the top of Iron Mountain and the park entrance. The first thing you’ll notice is Glenwood Springs laid out like a miniature city below, complete with moving cars and intermittent trains passing by. You’ll also be able to spot the site where Defiance, the park’s newest roller coaster will soon be located. Currently under construction on the southeast slope, the gravity-defying ride is slated to open in this summer.

Titanic Moment

Some of the best views can be seen from Viewing DeckIt only takes a spark of imagination to channel your own Leo and Kate Titanic moment on the Viewing Deck of the Visitor Center, especially if there’s a slight breeze. Spread your arms wide and feel the power of the mountains surging around you. From the Viewing Deck you can see it all—the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers, the Elk Range towards Aspen, Mt. Sopris in the foreground and Red Mountain directly across the valley. Old-fashioned coin-operated viewing scopes allow you to zero in on the details of this magnificent panorama.

Daring Views

Of course, some of the best vistas at Glenwood Caverns come fast and quick aboard the park’s thrill rides. For views that will quite literally take your breath away, the Giant Canyon Swing swoops riders out over Glenwood Canyon, 1,300 feet below; similarly, the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster and Glenwood Canyon Flyer provide opportunities to glimpse the landscape from above (but only if you dare open your eyes)! The Soaring Eagle Zip Ride and the Alpine Coaster glide through and over pinyon pine and high desert foliage native to the area. For a slower beat, take a spin on the Mine Wheel, a Ferris-wheel-inspired ride. Several of the park’s rides operate seasonally, so be sure to check the ride status page to see which ones are open when you visit.
