The Little Theme Park That Could
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, a family-owned theme park situated on top of a mountain in a town of 10,000 people, continues to build world-class attractions that draw visitors from around the world. In 2018, its Haunted Mine drop—the only drop ride in the world—was voted the Best New Amusement Park Attraction of 2017 by USA TODAY readers, beating out companies like Disney, Six Flags and Herschend Family Entertainment (Dollywood). The park’s unique setting enables the owners to take ordinary thrill rides, such as the Giant Canyon Swing, and make them extraordinary by placing them on the edge of a cliff, 1,300’ above the Colorado River. Located three hours from the closest major airport and large city, this mom-and-pop business’ mission statement is to make people smile, and that they do.
Multi-generational Travel Destination
As more and more families enjoy vacations with kids, parents, grandparents and sometimes great-grandparents, finding destinations that offer activities for all ages and interests has become a hot topic. Glenwood Springs, Colo., is home to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, which offers everything from scenic tram rides, walking and wild cave tours and kid-friendly attractions to extreme thrill rides, live music, a melodrama and olde-type photos. It’s also home to hot springs, whitewater rafting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, horseback and ATV tours, hiking and biking trails, museums, shopping and award-winning restaurants and breweries. Additional family-pleasing activities include a vaudeville show, farmers’ markets and free concerts in the summer.
Out-of-the-box Group Venues
Ordinary meetings, reunions, weddings and corporate events are so yesterday. Today, it’s all about the out-of-the-ordinary, grammable venues that make these events memorable. Located on top of Iron Mountain and overlooking scenic Glenwood Springs, Colo., Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park can accommodate groups from 25 to 250, with customizable packages that include tram rides, cave tours, attractions available with or without food. Meal choices includes deli sandwich sack lunches, ac cookout, bar-be-cue buffet and a fajita bar. During the summer, The Fort group space offers private, covered seating and a sound system.
